mgk
"Music lulls my eyes closed and like a marionette, my hands sway to the sounds filtering through my headphones. Each note excites my senses... a new album just released and my soul is transported to a new reality; and I don't want to forget how I felt listening to this for the first time."
I created this painting for the love of sound and new experiences- for people who live life to a soundtrack curated by artists and visionaries sharing their humanity. This painting is a part of my Muses series which explores my connection to the artists that unknowingly join me daily in the studio. Mgk's passion and authenticity has been a steady companion along my journey of self discovery and continues to shape my own artistic perspective. In this painting I explore his multi-faceted creativity and share my own interpretation of his work through my own creative lens, breaking down symbolic moments in both his music and visual storytelling.
This painting is still in progress, once completed it will be available for collectors! I am often asked...
When did you start listening to mgk?
I was a "Sleeping with Sirens" fan as a pre-teen, and mgk first popped on my radar in 2013 when he and Kellin Quinn produced "Swing Life Away"- for many years he stayed on the back burner of my music experience. Often popping in and out, featured on singles that peppered their way through my teen experience- and like many, "Rap Devil" solidified his place in my working music memory. But it wasn't until 2020 that his music made it's way onto my own curated playlists... "Tickets To My Downfall" holds a permanent cd shaped slot in my heart and was the soundtrack of my life during the Covid-19 lockdown. I was a college student, stuck at home, coping with coming of age during the pandemic; and I remember coming home from my service job, making my way over to my covid pod and playing cards until 1 am listening to a strange mixture of country music (one of my friends was a die hard country fan) and the Tickets singles- and then I just never stopped listening.
